Douglas Deering
The death of Douglas Joseph Deering, Sr. loving husband for 50 years to Joan (Northrup) Deering occurred on Tuesday March 15, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in April of 1938 in Saint John, he was the son of the late John and Josephine (Britney) Deering. Douglas was a Steel Fabricator and worked for Saint John Ship Building for over 38 years retiring in 1996. He was a Local #3 Union Representative and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Jervis Bay. Douglas enjoyed playing pool, darts and cards with family and friends; fishing trips, hunting, the outdoors and time at the cottage. Besides his loving wife Joan, he is survived by two sons, Douglas, Jr. (Colleen) and Richard (Pamela) both of Saint John and one daughter Deborah Savoy (Barry) of New Market, ON; brother Greg (Theresa) of St. Andrews; sisters Helen Willar of Saint John, Phyllis Reid (Paul) and Mary Rogers both of Ontario, Kathleen Kelly (William) of Saint John and Patsy Clarke (Gerald) of Saint John; grandchildren Tricia, Sarah, Rachel, Christian and Brandon and great-grandchildren Mercedes and Anthony. Besides his parents, Douglas was predeceased by brothers Patrick, Ronnie and John Deering and sisters Peggy Deering and Irene Patterson.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday, March 17th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 12 noon.
