LUND, Alwin Joseph “Al†– 72, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday evening, July 18, 2009, at home, after a lengthy illness. Born February 27, 1937 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, he was a son of the late Jack and Bertha (Duncan) Lund. Al was an active member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree) and volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul Society. He worked as Leading Air Craftsman and with the search and rescue with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He then worked as a mechanic with Toronto Peterburg Transport (TPT) and finally with CN from where he retired in 1999. Al is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Laura Mae (Hyde); daughters, Cindy Drisdelle, Saint John, New Brunswick; Isabel (Brian) MacPhee, Clyde River, Prince Edward Island; Corinne Lund, Petitcodiac, New Brunswick; Debbie Lund, Truro; grandchildren, Chrystal, Adam, Brodie, Ambyr, Meghan and Ryanne; great grandchildren, Maika and Kayleb; sisters, Joan (Bud) Godfrey, Ontario; Barb (Haviland) MacDougall, Charlottetown; brothers, Charlie (Ollie), Charlottetown; David (Katherine), Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island; Jack, Alberta; half sister, Marion Lowe; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Tommy (Eileen) Lund, Harold and George “Hapâ€; half sisters, Edna Shaw, Florence (Alfred) Trainer; half brother, John Shaw. Al’s family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Phillips, the Palliative Care Team and the VON for their exceptional care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Al’s family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro, Father Joseph Thomas officiating. Interment will be held 2 pm Friday, July 24, 2009, in Pioneer Cemetery, Cornwall, Prince Edward Island. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Al’s memory to Palliative Care or Victorian Order of Nurses are welcomed.
