Marie Rushbrook
Marie C. Rushbrook of York Mills and Fredericton, NB passed away on March 14, 2011 at Shannex Thomas Hall, Fredericton. Born at York Mills, NB on April 11, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Lottie (Nesbitt) Little. Marie graduated from Sherbrook Hospital Nursing School in 1946. Before her marriage, Marie worked at the Children’s Polio Hospital in Fredericton. In later years, she nursed at Sunnybrook Hospital and then for the Department of Public Health in Toronto, ON until her retirement. Marie loved music and was a gifted piano player. She studied music throughout her youth and although she could easily read music, she had a remarkable ‘ear’. She could hear a song on the radio once, then sit down at the piano and play it. Marie and her sister, Regina, loved to harmonize on the old tunes of the 30's and 40's and were a great asset to any family gathering or party. Marie was an avid cross-country skier and she loved to travel, especially by car. She loved the spontaneous adventure of the open road. In 1986, she and Regina drove across Canada and back, to visit Vancouver’s Expo. Marie is survived by her children, Susan Gladiuk (Ron), Abbotsford, BC and David Rushbrook (Lucie), Whistler, BC and her grandchildren, Gabriel Matteau-Rushbrook and Camie Matteau-Rushbrook; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her son John Rushbrook, her sister, Regina Clarke and her brothers, Edwin and Roy Little. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Allen, Dr. Cameron and all the nursing staff at Shannex Thomas Hall for their genuine concern and kind care of our mother, especially over the past several months.
In keeping with her expressed wishes, Marie’s remains have been given to Medical Science. At her request there will be no funeral service. For those who wish to make a donation of remembrance, please choose a charity or organization that you feel strongly about.
