Frank passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2011 with loving family members by his side.
Frank was born on May 23, 1921 in Unity, Saskatchewan and when he was 9 years old the Schmidt family moved to Kelowna, B.C. He resided there until 1940 when he enlisted with the Canadian Scottish Regiment. Frank was a D-Day veteran and served overseas for 4 years. Upon returning to Canada, he settled in Vancouver where he worked as a carpenter and then a commercial fisherman. In the 60's, Frank moved to Kamloops where he and brother Matt had a successfully welding business. He retired at the age of 57 and enjoyed fishing, camping and playing cards with his many friends and relatives. His love of family and the outdoors were beyond measure.
Frank is survived by his loving partner of 23 years, Mildred (Mid) Carlson, daughters Sharon Schmidt (Greg), Christie (Bob) Okrainetz, son Larry (Val) Schmidt and stepdaughters Megan (Don) Homan and Lori Suffredine. He also leaves to mourn, brothers Adam (Ginny) and Matthew, six sisters Pauline Wishinski, Cecelia (Albert) Sprovieri, Min Kilby, Rose Munoz, Mary (Dave) Brooks, Helen Clark, eleven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His second wife Christine, also brothers Anthony and Bill and his sister Kay Rutka, predeceased him.
Frank would say everyday since D-Day was a bonus. His bonus days totalled 24,377 and now he is with the Lord.
A Celebration of Frank's Life will be held at Gateway City Church, 163 Oriole Road, Kamloops, B.C. on April 16th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.
