HIGGINS, Alfred– Passed peacefully away at the L.A. Miller Centre on March 16th, 2011 surrounded by his loving family, Alf Higgins, aged 62 years. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Annie, brother Ernie, father-in-law Harold Somerton and mother-in-law Thelma Somerton, brothers-in-law Harold Somerton (Jr.) and William Moss. Leaving to mourn his loving wife and best friend of 37 years, Elsie; his cherished children: Lorie Hopkins (Curtis) and Blaine (Amy); his beautiful granddaughters Hayley and the joy of his life Kristen. Alf will also be missed by his loyal and constant furry companion Rocky. Also leaving to mourn sister Gladys White (Tom); brother Don (Angela); brothers-in-law: Gordon Somerton (June), Grant Somerton (Cheryl), Ray Somerton (Denise); sisters-in-law: Nancy Somerton, Tammy Moss and Fern Somerton, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends especially Gary and Lola, Norm and Agnes, Len and Loretta and Marilyn and Greg, as well as special neighbours Greg and Debbie. Alf was a life time member of the Church Lads Brigade (CLB). The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Aaron McKim as well as the Drs. and staff of both the Palliative Care Unit at the L.A. Miller Centre and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Centre for the kind and caring support shown to Alf during his stay there, and to The Reverend Garry Parsons for his pastoral support. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Friday, March 18th, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, March 19th and 20th, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service to take place from St. Lawrence Anglican Church on Monday, March 21st., 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Bauline Line Ext. No flowers by request, donations in Alf’s memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation or the St. Lawrence Anglican Church Fund.
