It is with deep regret we announce the untimely passing of our Matthew, a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, on March 18, 2011.
Matthew was the only son of Calvin and Sharon (Curry) MacDonald of Longbeach, Port Morien. He was a 2006 graduate of Glace Bay High School and he attended heavy equipment operator courses at NSCC Port Hawkesbury. He was a lobster fisherman on his father’s boat; played hockey from 1993 through 2006 with Glace Bay minor hockey; and, Matthew loved hunting, fishing and snowboarding with best friends, Nathan Susan and Wesley Forward.
He is survived by his loving parents, Calvin and Sharon; only sister, Lindsay (Andrew), at home; grandparents, Kevin and Eunice Curry, Black Brook; aunts, Colleen (Wayne) Spencer, Black Brook, and Lois (Austin) Venedam, Antigonish; great aunt “Jo”, Sydney River; cousins, Laura and Emily Venedam, Hillary and Jenna Spencer and Joanne Adshade.
He was predeceased by paternal grandparents, William and Agnes MacDonald of Port Morien and maternal great-grandparents, John and Violet Campbell, Port Caledonia.
Visitation for Matthew will be held today (Monday) from 5-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church, Port Morien, with Rev. Vernon Reid and Rev. Glen Kent officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Donations in Matthew’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
