Walter Waranycia, 84 of 123 MacDonald Crescent, Sydney, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Ukraine, he was the son of the Dmytro and Maria (Swystun) Waranycia.
He was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Parish and a longtime member of the parish men's club, also Walter was active as a cantor in the church. For many years Walter lived and worked in Montreal as a furrier with Mudrys Fur Dresses & Dyers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife the former Anna Bantush; daughter Mary Ann of Sydney and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters.
Visitation for Walter Waranycia will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where a Panachyda Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Holy Ghost Church with Fr. Roman Dusanowskyj officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
