
Barbara Jean Brown-Warden
Barbara Jean Brown-Warden, 75, Amherst enjoyed a full life of travel and many friends worldwide, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan with her loving family by her side.
Born in Amherst on January 29, 1936, she was the oldest daughter of the late Norman and Frances (Smith) Chapman.
She lived in Ontario where she worked as receptionist in the Business Office of the Ajax Hospital and later joined her husband when they built Bayshore Furniture Ltd in Pickering, Ontario that they owned and operated until they returned back home to Nova Scotia.
A very proud and active member of the First Baptist Church, Amherst, Barbara was baptized in 1947 and involved in numerous activities and social groups within the church. Both marriages where performed there as well, she always found great peace and enjoyment with her church family.
She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and enjoyed her bridge group that she was not able to attend over the last year, due to her illness.
Barbara and her first husband Harvey owned and operated the Sofa Shoppe Ltd. in Amherst for 21 years.
She remarried in 2003 to a wonderful gentleman - George who left England to marry Barbara and start a life in Canada. Together they shared many memorable moments and found great joy in each other and their friends.
She was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Barbara leaves behind to mourn her loving husband, George; daughter, Terri (Brian DesBarres), Amherst; son, Michael, Riverview, NB; step daughters, Josephine (Jimmy) Lim and Lisa (Kwasi) Missah both of London, England, Fiona (Steve) Theaker, Grand Cayman; step son, Iain (Diane), Stratford-Upon-Avon, England; also surviving are her sisters, Norma Ann (Neil) MacGregor, Amherst and Beverley (Gerry) Sears, Amherst; grandchildren, Christopher and Jenna; as well as step-grandchildren, Stephen, Isabelle, Mollie, Charlie, Sophie, Tess and Callum; many nieces; nephews; extended family; and many friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Harvey E. Brown; and brother, Gordon
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906).
Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Amherst with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.
Interment will be held at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery.
A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow in the church hall.
Memorial donations to the Palliative Care Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by Barbara's family.
