Passed away suddenly at his home on July 19, 2009, Michael (Sonny) McDonald, age 77 years. Predeceased by his parents Patrick (Pop) and Lillian (Thompson) McDonald; stepmother Madeline McDonald; brothers: Harold (Howie), Patrick (Gug), James and Joseph; brother-in-law Gerald Fleming and his friend since boyhood days and brother-in-law Thomas Rice. Left to mourn his passing and grateful for having shared in his life are his sisters: Stella (Biddy) Fleming, Mary (Tuckel) Rice, Margaret Forward and her husband Bob who raced horses alongside Sonny at the race track in the Goulds back in the 60's and 70's; Anne Woodfine (Cecil), Patsy Quigley (Joey); brothers: William (Bill), John, Paul, Gus, Kevin (Carolyn), Donald (Ninny) (Wanda); sisters-in-law: Madge McDonald, Madeline McDonald, Carol McDonald, Ruth McDonald (his Sunday companion who along with his sister Tuckel took him to the horse races these past two years); his nephew, friend and neighbor Jerry McDonald, and a large circle of other nieces and nephews who made frequent visits to spend time with Sonny and enjoy his unique humor and stories about years gone by and his days of racing horses, as well as a large number of great nieces and nephews. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday, July 21 from 2-9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 22 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Teresa's Church, Mundy Pond Road, Cremation to follow.
