It is with deep regret that we announce the quiet passing of Walter Ford, on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on Sept. 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Fred and Marjorie (Strickland) Ford. He was a veteran of the Second World War.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Louella; children, David (Esther), Wayne (Sally), Sherry, Gail (Craig); stepchildren, Georgia (Al), Patricia (Glen), George (Wendy) and Troy; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walter is also survived by brothers, Henry (Shirley) and Jimmy (Heather); sisters, Edith (late Manny Tobin) and Nora (Cecil).
Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Rideout) Ford; an infant daughter, Beverly; twin brother, John, brother George; sisters, Agnes and Edna and stepsister, Ruby.
At Walter’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at 1 p.m. A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Marjorie Serafinus officiating. A reception will be held in the Sydney Mines Legion following the service.
Donations in Walter’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada.
