Gloria Grace Bowyer
December 18, 1940 ~ March 20, 2011
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gloria Grace Bowyer, announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the age of 70 years. Gloria was born December 18, 1940 in Medicine Hat, a daughter to proud parents, John and Bertha Weiss. She was raised on the family farm south of Irvine and later moved to a ranch near Piapot, Saskatchewan. She married Glen Nicol of Tompkins, Sask. on February 25, 1960 and their marriage was blessed with the birth of four children. Glen passed away unexpectedly and she was left behind to look after her family. After a few years, she married her second husband, Morley Bowyer on November 4, 1979. Gloria was a devoted mother who raised a large family. Family was her life, and her role as a wife, mother and grandmother was fulfilled more than anyone could ask for. She always put others first. She knew her way around the kitchen as she was an excellent cook - her turkeys will certainly be missed. She enjoyed tending to her garden, canning and spending time with family camping. She also socialized with friends and remained active golfing and curling. She had belonged to the Sidewood Social Club and was a member of the charismatic Red Hat Society. Gloria will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Besides her husband, Morley, she will be lovingly remembered by her children from her first marriage, Selene (Burt) Anderson, Anita (Walter) Bilych and Alerin Nicol (Denine Thingvold); son-in-law, Randy (Lisa) Olson; grandchildren, Kirstine (Fiance Sadik) and Bryce (Kerry); Alyssa and Cassie; and Shayla, Spenser and Sidney; brother, Ken Weiss; sisters, Fran (Erik) Nielsen and Rose (Rob) Pender; sister-in-law, Vera Weiss as well as numerous nieces, nephews and further extended family. She is also survived by family from her second marriage, including Rhonda Bowyer, Carmen (Glen) Phillips, Wade Bowyer (Brandi) and their families. Gloria was predeceased by her first husband, Glen Nicol; parents, John and Bertha Weiss; daughter, Sylvia Olson; brother, Johnny Weiss; sister, Ella Weiss; sister-in-law, Lorna Weiss and a grandson, Dustin Bowyer. Gloria’s life was celebrated at the River Park Church, 503A Allowance Ave. S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Enslen officiating.
