Captain Gerald Warren Anstey
Date de décès : 19 mars 2011
Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at the Palliative Care Unit, Leonard Miller Centre, March 19, 2011, Captain Gerald (Gerry) Warren Anstey in his 83rd year. Born July 23, 1928 in St. John’s, NL, Gerry began a life at sea at the young age of 16. His shore-based life brought him to the oil business where he enjoyed a 25 year career with Ultramar Canada. Gerry retired in 1985 and went on with his wife to enjoy a life of travel, both back and forth to his cherished property in Cappahayden and overseas to visit with friends in the UK. Not a duo to stop for long they travelled by car all over North America and racked up many, many miles on their vehicles. During both his career and his retired years Gerry held memberships in several organizations such as North West Rotary, Bally Haly, St. John’s Elks, Masonic Avalon Lodge and CARP to name a few. Predeceased by parents Captain George and Ethel Anstey (nee Edgecombe). Leaving to mourn his devoted wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Shirley (nee Dutot); his children: Leslie Osmond (Keith), Kenneth (Lynda Myers), all in St. John’s and Charlie (Sandra Ruby) in Calgary; Grandpa’s boys: Blair and Gavin Osmond, St. John’s and Warren and Clifton Anstey, Calgary; brother Cedric (Helen); sisters: Ruby Dawe, Brockville, Ontario and Shirley Dwyer (Bill, deceased), of St. John’s. There are many (far too long to list) who will miss Gerry. The family would like to thank everyone who visited Gerry not only during his stay in the PCU but all throughout his illness over the past couple of years. Those who were not able to visit, phoned almost daily and Gerry looked forward to each and every single call. Thank you for those calls and visits - they meant so much to him and to his family. Many thanks to the nurses and staff at the PCU for all the care given to Dad over his three month stay. At Gerry’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to take place Friday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel with private interment to follow at a later date. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.
