Don Kelland, age 50 of Beacon Street, Glace Bay passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Mark and Nora (Snook) Kelland.
Don was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. He was employed with Cape Breton Transit for several years and was also the union president for two years. He enjoyed watching sports, especially hockey and football and loved listening to heavy metal rock music. Don will be remembered as a man with a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his partner, Mary McNamara; brother, Mark (Peggy), Glace Bay; two sisters, Murial Vokey, Ontario and Pauline Kelland, Glace Bay.
Don was predeceased by two brothers, Ellis, Charles and one sister, Elizabeth Kelland.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay with Rev. Fred Rhymes officiating. Reception to follow. Interment for Don will take place at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy for Don, donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation.
