Lenore Augusta Winters
WINTERS, Lenore Augusta – 101, The Mira Long Term Care Center, Truro, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the home. Born January 17, 1910, in Cheggogin, Yarmouth County, she was the eldest child of the late Elizabeth “Lizzie” (1918) (Lyons) and and John Lovitt Cann (1977). Lenore graduated from Provincial Normal School in 1930 and taught Domestic Science in Yarmouth for 20 years. Lenore was a long-time member of Saint Andrew’s United Church, Truro, where she was a member of Saint Andrew’s Quilters and life member of the United Church Women. She was also a life member of Canadian Bible Society and Colchester County Historical Society. Nothing would put a smile on Lenore’s face more than nine holes of golf at 7 am. Lenore is survived by her step-son, Bob (Peggy) Winters, Truro; step-daughter, Christine McBain, Dublin Shore; step grandchildren, Peter (Marnie Caron), Victoria, British Columbia; Beth (Frank) Wilson, Mirimichi, New Brunswick; step-great-granddaughters, Olive Winters, Caroline Wilson; brother, George Cann, Sarnia, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Cann, New Minas; Violet Cann, Yarmouth. She will be fondly remembered by her several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, J.R. “Jack” Winters (1978); brothers, Malcolm (RCN 1940), Bernley (1996), Jack (2006); sisters, Betty Cann (2002), Shirley Jolly (2006); sister-in-law, Janice Cann (2009). The family would like to thank the staff of The Mira and especially thank Sharon Riley for her friendship and the gentle care that she gave to Lenore over the past 12 years. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2011, in Saint Andrew’s United Church, 55 King Street, Truro, Reverend Jay Ettinger officiating. Reception will follow. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Lenore’s memory to Saint Andrew’s United Church or Truro Historical Society are welcomed.
