It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the age of 100. Helen McPherson passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Pauline (Landry) MacDonald.
She was a devoted wife and mother who along with her husband raised their five children and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. In her younger years, Helen’s house was always open to family and friends where many memories and great times were had. She loved outings with family and friends and enjoyed dancing. She was a devout Roman Catholic who was very strong in her beliefs. She was a member of St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion.
She is survived by sons, Mark (Margie Rose), Mississauga, Ont., and Omar (Tina) Dominion. She is also survived by grandchildren, Gordie Ferguson, Wendy Ferguson, Kevin, Charles and Stephen MacPherson, Lori MacPherson and Todd MacPherson; great grandchildren, Meghan, Colin, Madison, Robert, Ryan, Michael and Faith. She is also survived by sisters, Florence MacKinnon, Katie MacKenzie, Annabelle Jenkins, Minnie (Wishie) Campbell; brother, Malcolm (Cecilia) MacDonald; daughter-in-law, Barbara MacPherson; and sisters-in-law, Annie MacDonald and Audrey MacDonald.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm, sons, Laurie and Charles (Dewey), daughter, Pauline, two sons in infancy, grandsons, Jimmy and Bradley and one granddaughter in infancy. She was also predeceased by brothers, Jim, Shunna and Greg and sisters, Moonie Burnette and Jen Gilbert.
In honoring Helen’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall, all are welcome.
No flowers by request. Donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Special Olympics or a charity of choice.
