Irene Clarke, 74, of Reserve Mines passed away peacefully in the arms of her eldest daughter, Cathy on July 24, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Annie (Chipman) MacIntyre.
She was a member of Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines. Irene’s greatest accomplishment was being a mother to her children. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She was a very kind and extremely generous lady. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing at Lingan and dancing. Irene enjoyed dressing up for any occasion and she was a wonderful entertainer who loved to tell stories and make others laugh. In her earlier years she was an active participant in the Rotary shows.
Surviving is her husband of 55 years, Wes; daughters, Cathy (Sheldon) Ribeiro, Ontario, Valerie Simpson, Florida, Faye (Gerald) Fiset, Montreal; son, Blair (Cheryl) Clarke, Vancouver; sister, Ruth MacSween, Sydney. Irene will also be missed by her grandchildren, Danielle and Grant Simpson, Isaac and Nicolle Ribeiro, Spencer and Mason Clarke; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by sisters, Mary and Jean, brothers, Billy, Johnny, Buddy, David, Jimmy and infant brothers, Conrad and Donald.
By request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 28 at 2 p.m. in Gordon United Church, Main Street, Reserve Mines, with Martha MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or to Gordon United Church.
