It is with sadness we announce the passing of Marlene MacGillivary, 39, of New Waterford on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Glace Bay Health Care Facility.
Marlene was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Joseph Church, New Victoria. She enjoyed painting, making crafts and cooking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children who were the light of her life. Marlene was a very loving and friendly person who was loved by all who knew her.
Surviving are daughters, Marrisa (Jonathan) MacGillivary, Lonnie MacGillivary, both of New Waterford, Kyla Murphy, Sydney; granddaughter, Jackelyn; aunt, Myra Colson and her children, Carrie and Colin; special friend, Tommy Murphy, Sydney.
Marlene was predeceased by one son, Ernest Alonzo, in infancy.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass to celebrate Marlene’s life will take place Tuesday, July 28 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Joseph Church, New Victoria with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria at a later date. A luncheon will be held at St. Agnes Centre, Convent Street, New Waterford, immediately following the funeral mass.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney or a charity of one’s choice.
