Chambers, Harley Eugene — 82, of Newport Station, Hants County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, March 17, 2011, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on January 11, 1929, he was a son of the late George and Evelyn (Sanford) Chambers. Harley spent most of his working life doing jobs around the farm as a farm hand and he loved to spend time outdoors. He enjoyed playing the 45's card game as well as playing horseshoes and watching wrestling. Foremost, he was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Harley loved his family and he especially enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Ruth Porter; sons Bill (Margaret), B.C., Fred (Kaye), Newport Station, and Wayne (Jennifer), Newport Station; daughter Chris (Jerry) Hunter, Three Mile Plains; grandchildren David (Tara) Whitehead, Devin (Jodie) Whitehead, Chad (Sarah) Whitehead, Stephen Chambers, Melissa Chambers, Ashley (Troy) Carson and Natasha (Greg) Chambers; great-grandchildren Davie and Seth Whitehead, Brandon, Brayden and Blake Carson, Morgan and Reagan Whitehead and Brianna Carson; brothers Gordon Chambers, Windsor, George (Molly) Chambers, Brooklyn, Ronnie Chambers, Windsor, and Lester (Shirley) Chambers, Dartmouth; sisters Edith Levy, Newport Station, and Joan Turple, Stewiacke. Harley was predeceased by brothers Ted, Howard, Arthur and Donald Chambers; sisters Gladys Murphy, Marguerite Dahr and Geraldine Hunter. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Unit 200 at Hants Community Hospital, especially Dr. Cathryn Smith and nurse Sarah Tracey. Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor, where the family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 25. A service celebrating Harley's life was held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26 in Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Chapel, with a reception held immediately following in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. Interment was held in Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. Family flowers only by request, however donations in memory of Harley may be made to the Hants Community Hospital Palliative Care, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or to a charity of one's choice.
