Skelhorn, William Norman "Bill" — of Windsor, Hants County, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the age of 59, surrounded by his loving family and close friend, Tommy, in Hants Community Hospital. Bill was an amazing man who captured the hearts of many with his joyful nature and caring spirit. He loved everything to do with fishing including tying his own flies that he guaranteed would catch a fish in any local river. He had a true pride in his gardens and would spend many hours mowing his lawn to perfection. He enjoyed dancing, loving his children and making his three grandchildren smile. He was a member of the Windsor District Lions Club and was involved in many fundraising events throughout his life for local sports organizations and persons in need, as well as being one of the founding members of the local chapter of the Children's Wish Foundation. He is survived by his mother Ivy Skelhorn (Baxter), Windsor; son Ian (Melanie) Skelhorn, Hantsport; daughter Catheryn (Jarrod) Thomas, St. John's, N.L.; grandsons Colton and Connor Skelhorn; and granddaughter Emma Thomas. Bill is also survived by brother Brad Skelhorn, Windsor; sisters Crystal (Joe) Thompson, Miramichi, N.B. and Tanya Skelhorn, Windsor; as well as his former wife and loving friend, Elizabeth Skelhorn, Windsor. He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Skelhorn, and sister Barb Halley. Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor, where the family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 26. A service celebrating Bill's life was held 2 p.m., Sunday, March 27 in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Bill Gibson officiated. A reception immediately followed in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre, with burial taking place at a later date. Donations may be made in his memory to the Children's Wish Foundation, which was very close to his heart, 7071 Bayers Rd., Suite M270, Halifax NS B3L 2C2 (1-800-267-9474).
