Lieu de naissance : North Sydney, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 28 mars 2011
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Hazel MacSween, on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Maude (Hinks) Lewis. Hazel had been employed with Woolco Department Stores, working in the Sydney River location for 25 years, where she often spoke of having many great times and making life long friends. In later years, she would embrace her new role as grandmother. Her joy of laughter, and being a kid at heart, enabled her to thoroughly enjoy caring for her grandchildren during their younger years. She would also become “Nanny” to Zach and Kyle Verschuren, whom she cared for as well. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, and had been active as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.
Hazel enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, laughter, and the love of family and friends which she was able to maintain to the end in spite of her trials with Alzheimer disease.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Ellen), of Ft. McMurray, Shirley (Dan) Campbell, of Sydney Mines, Dan (Marianne), of Georges River; her six grandchildren, Brent (Jenna) MacSween, Craig (Katie) MacSween, Daniel and Lisa McRae, Mark Campbell and Jill MacSween; her two great-grandchildren, Ewan and Callum; her five sisters, Floss Ashford, Northside Guest Home, Bernice (Charlie) Sampson, North Sydney, Joyce (Bob) Standing, Truro, Sadie (Ray) Joyes and Shirley Murray, both of Woodstock, Ont.; her brothers, Hector (Eileen) Lewis, Sydney Mines, George (Sue) Lewis and Dan Lewis, both of North Sydney; by numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her extended family, the residents and staff of Fisherman's Cove, Kimberly Hall, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband Henry ‘Buster’ MacSween; sisters, Mary and Margaret; brothers, Jim, Bill and Stan.
Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Gracie, Dr. Smith, and especially the staff of Fisherman's Cove for their love, care and support shown to Hazel and her family during her illness.
Visitation for Hazel will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Wednesday), in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Thursday 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jake Andrea, officiating. Burial at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or any charity.
