Marie Riggs
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Marie Riggs of Fredericton, NB at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 following a brief illness. She was born in Halifax, NS to the late Edward and Lillian (nee Nelson) (Williams ) Millett. Marie was well loved and will be missed by her daughters, Lynn Coy (Edward) of Moncton, NB and Christina Buttler (Ken) of Toronto, ON as well as her grandchildren, Michael Coy of Moncton, NB and Katie Coy of Fredericton, NB. She is also survived by her sisters, Jean Conrod, Florence Conrod and Betty Arsenault (Howard); brothers, Arthur Millett (Georgina) and brother-in-law, Bob DeBaie all of Dartmouth, NS; brothers-in-law, Merlin Riggs (Anita) and Raymond Riggs (Betty) as well as her sister-in-law, Dot Riggs all of Halifax, NS. Marie also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas R. Riggs; her parents and her sister, Ruth DeBaie. Marie loved to be a part of things which showed with her involvement and memberships in the Black Watch Association, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, the FSNA (Federal Superannuates National Association), St. Dunstan’s Seniors Auction 45’s Card Group, Wheels to Meals and the Linus Blanket Project. She also enjoyed flowers, bus trips and volunteering. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the William Duffie Rehab Centre and Med. 1 Staff at the Oromocto Public Hospital as well as the staff of We Care, especially Cathy Blaney. They would also like to give a very special thank you to Marie’s friend and neighbor, Joan Belyea and her family for their kind support over the years.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St. (458-9170) on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, April 1, 2011 at
3:00 pm. Rev. Ken Weir will officiate. Interment will take place on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville, NS.
