Jean Houghton
August 2, 1930 – July 25, 2009
Jean Houghton passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25th at the Royal University Hospital with family members at her side. Jean was predeceased by her son Robin, her mother and father, Janet and Archie Ewing and her older brother Bill (Anne). Jean is survived by her loving husband Merv of 56 years, her son Brad (Alana) and her grandson, Max. She is also survived by her sisters Les Trask (Ron), Joyce Ewing (Ed Bushey), Pat Hannah (Harold), Pearl Kraus, Lois Auramenko (Bob), Lynn Westbury (Glen) and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Jean served as a laboratory technician at the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital for five years prior to the birth of her first son. The following years were devoted to raising her family and providing community volunteer service. Jean served on the founding board of the Ronald McDonald House and President of the North Saskatchewan Cystic Fibrosis Chapter. She also served on committees for the Canadian Brier and Seagrams Mixed Championships held in Saskatoon. Jean was active in sports, participating in curling, tennis, golf and skiing. Following her husband’s retirement in 1987, they spent glorious summers on Houghton Island in Lac La Ronge where they entertained friends and relatives. Their winters were spent in Venture Out Park, Mesa, Arizona, and Aprils were spent in Kelowna, BC. The family wishes to give thanks to the Saskatoon Hospital Staffs for their superb care and special thanks to Doctors Nora McKee, Paul Hayes, Grant Wright, Carol Boyle, Margaret Crossley, S. Ahmed and Dr. V. Kundapur. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home (corner of 4th Ave and 25th St.) on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow at the W.A Edwards Family Centre.
