Merle Allan
Merle W. Allan of West Saint John husband of the late Eileen (Black) Allan, passed away at Ridgewood Veterans Hospital on March 31, 2011. Born June of 1920 in Saint John, son to the late Wilfred and Marjorie (Totten) Allan. Merle worked as a Fireman on the CPR, an attendant in the Old Provincial Hospital and the Annex, then later the Dr. Roberts Hospital, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and was a member of the RCL Branch # 69. A Veteran of WWII he served with the RCE in Canada and overseas. Merle is survived by his sons Ronald of Anagance Ridge and Lawrence (Teresa) of Saint John; daughter Merleen C. Smith (Don) of Hampton; brother Arnold Allan of Oshawa, ON; sister Mildred Mahaney of Ontario; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents Merle was predeceased by his loving wife Eileen (Black) Allan; step mother Olivia Allan and sister Eileen M. Allan.
Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on April 3rd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.; with a tribute to a Veteran service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception. Private family interment to be held at a later date at the Anagance Cemetery. Donations in Merle’s memory can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
