It is with saddened hearts that the family of Ronald Kerr Whidden announce his passing on March 31, 2011 at the place he called home and felt content for the past two years, Wynn Park Villa. Born in Harmony, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Fannie (Canning) Whidden. He was a wonderful man, known to his family as Kerr his friends as Ron or Ronnie and to his grandchildren and all their friends as Da. Ron served in the army during the Second World War where he spent time overseas as a military police officer. He worked for CN Railway for 35 years. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and most of all going for his Sunday drives. He always watched for the deer. Ron was member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26 and the Truro Horsemen’s Club. He was married to his loving wife Ella Jane Pauline (McNutt) for 43 years until she passed away in April, 1992. He is survived by his children, Lee (Doreen), Moncton, NB, Linda (Wayne) Whooten, Lawrence (Linda) and Lorraine all of North River; grandchildren, Robin, Steven, Timmy, Tammy, Tyler, Becky, Ronnie and Jason; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean, Marjorie and Helen; brothers Vaughn, Frank, Jack and Bill; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Rollie, Horace, Harold, Donnie and one brother in infancy. No visitation by request. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service, Branch 26, will begin the funeral service at 2 pm on Sunday, April 3rd in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Pastor Timothy Whidden officiating. Interment in Harmony Cemetery in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
