Leo passed away in Victoria, BC on July 25, 2009 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Winnipeg, Mb. on December 5, 1928, he was predeceased by his wife Patricia and leaves to mourn, his companion and long time friend, Pat Thompson and the all the Thompson family in Alberta who accepted him into their hearts; his children Glennis, Kim and George and their families; his brother Frank and many friends from Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC. Leo served in the RCN during WWII. He was connected with the Sea Cadet Corps for many years before retiring with the position of Commanding Officer of the Medicine Hat Sea Cadets. In his youth, Leo loved platform diving, winning many awards. He loved to swim, skate and snow ski and was an instructor at the ski hill in Calgary now called Canada Olympic Park. Leo loved the game of hockey and on several occasions, was called up to play goal for the Montreal Canadiens. He lived for many years in Moose Jaw and was involved with the Moose Jaw junior hockey team. For many years, he was the manager and engineer at the Medicine Hat hockey arena being very involved with the Medicine Hat Tigers Hockey Club. Leo moved to Calgary in the early 1960’s and worked at Happy Valley as their public relations director. He then became property manager for Abacus Cities in Calgary and also in Victoria before branching out with a partner forming Landan Property Management in Calgary until his retirement back to Victoria in 1984. He then started a fishing charter business out of the Oak Bay Marina on his boat, MAX III. His most memorable client was George Bush Sr. in 1996 but he entertained many other celebrities and great clients who he enjoyed talking to about their experiences. There will be no formal service. An informal gathering may be considered at a later date to remember Leo’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the McKenzie Veterinary Clinic Service, 3888 Carey Road, Victoria, BC V8Z 4C9 to help pet owners who cannot afford treatment for life threatening injuries or illness to their pets.
