Charles Thomas Baird, age 77, of Amherst passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009, in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, after falling ill on Father’s Day.
He was born and raised in Amherst, NS. He was the son of the late Charles (Stan) and Ursula (Morris) Baird. Charles worked as a stone mason for many years and worked on several buildings at Mount Allison University and the University of New Brunswick. He also worked at IMP for many years retiring in 1997. He was an avid outdoors man who loved nature. In the past few years his favorite time of the day was when he could sit on his back step in the evening with Coco and watch the hummingbirds. Charles radiated warmth and love for his family and friends. All those that knew and loved him will miss his great sense of humor, his big heart and caring ways, but we will especially miss his big laugh.
He leaves behind his loving children and grandchildren: two daughters, Charlene Anne Terris and Sherry Jean (John) Atkinson, both of Amherst, one son Robbie Charles (Vicki) Baird of Amherst, one brother Gordon (Helen) Baird of Amherst and two sisters, Clara (Doug) Harris of Margaree, NS, and Violet (Jim) Whitford of Malagash, NS, four grandchildren and one great grandson: twins Emily and Erin Atkinson of Amherst, Taralee (Scott) Terris and Blair Terris and Logan Boudreau of Amherst as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Darlene Anne Galloway, infant son Stanley Glenn, one brother, Duncan and one sister, Evelyn.
His remains will rest at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church Street, Amherst, with visiting on Thursday, July 30, 2009, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2009, in Campbell’s Chapel with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.
Interment will follow in the Amherst Cemetery.
