We the family announce the passing of Josephine ‘Jo’ AuCoin , 91, Sydney on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford on November 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Dougald and Sarah (MacDonald) MacIntyre.
Jo was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the CWL in Sydney.
Jo and her husband Severan lived in Westmount where they raised their three children, Keith, Shannon and Lorne. In the early 1970s Jo and Sev moved to Sydney and spent their retirement years enjoying dancing, cards and bowling. She was a member of ‘Club 55’ and the Sydney Steelworkers Pensioner’s Club.
She was a dedicated homemaker and her family always came first. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Jo is survived by her children, Keith (Dolena), Windsor, NS, Shannon (John ‘Chick’) Chisholm, Dartmouth, Lorne (Mary), Sydney Forks; grandchildren, Tanya (Eric) and Peter (Jennifer), Allyson, Robyn and Justin Chisholm, Martin and Erin AuCoin and two great-grandsons, Zavin Peter and River Thomas AuCoin; many wonderful nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Eileen MacDonald.
She was predeceased by her husband, Severan; sisters, Margaret MacPhee and Florence MacKenzie; brothers, John Malcolm and John Angus; stepsisters, Rachel Beaton and Sr. Sadie Beaton, CND.
Visitation for the late Josephine AuCoin will take place at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney on Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 31 at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Sydney with Fr. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and support staff of Fisherman’s Cove, who lovingly cared for her. As well, many thanks to the dedicated clergy and physicians who cared for her over the years.
Donations may be made in Josephine’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
