Lorraine Praud was born in Prince Albert on August 27, 1953. She passed away on March 14, 2011 in Vernon, BC after a courageous battle with cancer in her own home, with her partner, Tim Verhay, by her side. Lorraine leaves to mourn, her parents Marcel and Lillian Thompson; seven of her siblings Jim (Marlene), Fay LeChasseur, Karen (Garry) Johnston, Pat (Rita), Ann (Gus) Praud, Philip (Lori) and Shawn; her son Adam (Angie) and his father John and her partner Tim Verhay; also her granddaughters Kori, Kennedy and Alexis; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Lorraine attended St. Mark School and The Academy Presentation of Mary in Prince Albert. She worked for a brief time in Calgary at the Dominion Bridge Co. and then moved to Vernon where she had her son and married John. She worked for the Baker Co. there for many years and finally changed jobs to work for SQM Group. At her recent place of employment, Lorraine was recognized for establishing a Christmas fund raiser that encouraged the staff to raise money for food baskets for needy families in Vernon and forgo the yearly Christmas gift exchange. They now provide food for 25 families in Vernon every year. For all of Lorraine’s family and friends a “Celebration of Life” will be held in Prince Albert at the Nordale Community Hall, 1306 – 6th Avenue NW on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with a tea to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that a donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her name.
