Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 5 avril 2011

On Tuesday, April 5, 2011, John Ernest Pierre passed away peacefully after a brief hospitalization, following a long, courageous battle with leukemia.
Born in Sydney in 1930, he was the son of the late Archibald and Catherine Pierre. He was a former employee of the City of Sydney Works Department until his retirement in 1993. Previously residing on Prince Street he lived with his daughter, Susan on Horne’s Road, since the death of his loving wife, Margaret in 1996.
John was a quiet, gentle man who was very easy-going and well loved by all who knew him. He was an avid bowler and a member of many leagues over the years. He was quite often awarded prizes, not only for his bowling skills, but for his good sportsmanship.
He loved to tease, and was often on the receiving end as well as the giving end of many gag gifts.
His passion for playing cards was evident, whether it was a friendly game at home, or a more serious one of tarabish or 45s, organized by various community groups. His saying was “win a lot, lose a few”
Surviving are his seven children, Bob (Wendy), Dutch Brook, Charlie (Lena), Ball’s Creek, Cathy (Alan) Coombs, Winnipeg, Susan (late Michael) Holland, Horne’s Road., Rita, Horne’s Road, Wayne (Maxine), Mira, Patricia (Clarence) Mollons, Sydney and a very close family friend, his “other daughter”, Eileen (Steven) Gillis. He also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are his brothers, Joe and Archie and his sister, Reccie (Bill) Appleton. He will also be dearly missed by his companion for the past number of years, Mary Leonard; as well as Joann Larade and Mary Campbell, who prepared and served his breakfast, just the way he liked it, and became very dear friends to him. John will be truly missed by many friends, nieces, nephews, in-laws and other extended family.
Besides his parents and wife, John was predeceased by his brothers, Scotty and Roddy and his sisters, Greta, Betty and Eileen and son in-law, Michael.
Visitation will take place Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, April 8, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Forrest Haven Memorial Gardens.
