SIMPSON, Hattie Cecelia – 90, Great Village, passed away suddenly on Thursday morning, July 30, 2009 while camping with her family. Born April 19, 1919 in Lornevale, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Ayer) Scott. Hattie was a member of Saint James United Church, Great Village, for many years. She had a passion for her flower gardens, both at home and at the campground, enjoyed reading, traveling and at age 80, decided she should be computer literate and learned how to use the computer and internet. She loved her family dearly and was affectionately called “Mom” by family, friends and fellow campers. Hattie is survived by her children, Merna (Arnie) Pope, Surrey, British Columbia; Bill (Doreen), Debert; Lee (Barb), Great Village; Maynard (Janice), Debert; Anne (Gerry) Barkhouse, Great Village; Dale, Debert; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Grace (Robert) McCully, Debert; daughters-in-law, Lois MacKay, Porters Lake; Jean Dunsmore, Toronto. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wesley Robert; sons, Sonny, Gerry; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters, Florence Pringle, Lena Rushton, Stella Scott; brothers, Robert “Bob”, Frank “Bud”, Herbert “Herb” and Hardy Scott; half brother, Bill. Hattie’s family would like to thank the VON for their exceptional care and support. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Hattie’s family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Saturday, August 1, 2009 and where the funeral service will be held 2 pm Sunday, August 2, 2009, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Reception will follow. Interment will be in Mahon Cemetery, Great Village. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Hattie’s memory to Saint James United Church or a charity of choice are welcomed.
