Elizabeth Jane Martin, 85, of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, formerly of Whitney Pier, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the residence.
Born in English Harbour West, Fortune Bay, N.L., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Jane (Keeping) Bishop. She was a member of Holy Redeemer parish, Sydney.
Betty was an active homemaker who enjoyed her family life. She put her family’s needs ahead of everything and continued doing so throughout her life.
She is survived by four daughters, Rose MacDonald, Brenda both of Sydney, Rita MacIsaac, Ontario, Judy Hillier, British Columbia; six brothers, Fred, David, Francis (Nora), all of Sydney, Harris (Eileen), Donkin, Alexander ‘Sandy’, Ontario, Michael, British Columbia; three sisters, Mrs. Effie Hobbs, Newfoundland, Phoebie (Joe) MacDonald, Halifax, Elsie (Tom) Robe, Newfoundland; 25 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Luke William in 1988, two sons in infancy, Patrick and John, two brothers, Albert and Garland and a sister, Triffie.
Visitation for the late Betty Martin will be Monday, Aug. 3 in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund, Nova Scotia Lung Association or Canadian Diabetes Society.
