Riverton - Anna Catheryn Horne, 84, of the Glen Haven Manor and formerly of Riverton, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in Watervale, Pictou County, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Isabel Mary (Irving) MacKenzie. She worked all of her adult life at Eaton’s, Summerside, PEI; Canadian Tire, New Glasgow; Simpsons Sears, Stellarton/New Glasgow; Halliday Craftsmen, New Glasgow; and Schwartz Furniture, New Glasgow. She was an active member of O.E.S since 1967; GGCCM; Grand Representative for NY in NS; Past Matron. She is a lifelong member of Westville, O.E.S #24. She was an active member of Clan MacKenzie Society of Nova Scotia. She volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation and Red Cross. She was a member or St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow where she taught Sunday school, Explorers and CGIT and was involved with various Church groups and the Ladies Auxiliary. She attended 1st Presbyterian Church in Stellarton before returning to the "Kirk". She was a dedicated member of the Progressive Conservative Party and worked numerous elections over the years. She enjoyed knitting, crochet and plastic canvas. She is survived by a daughter Mary Leitha Horne, Ottawa; niece: Glenda Cluney; nephews: Miller, Lee and Kendall MacKenzie. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Neil Horne; brothers: John (Laura), Milton (Emma). Special thanks to the "girls" at Glen Haven Manor - Main Infirmary. Visitation 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Monday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 11 am Tuesday in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Pat Rose officiating. Burial will be in Lorne Street Cemetery at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
