The family of Christena MacInnes, St. George’s Channel, sadly announces her death at the Strait Richmond Hospital on, Wednesday, July 29, 2009.
She was born in Balmoral, Richmond County in 1928.
Christena loved the outdoors and was well known for her passion for gardening, berry picking, and bird feeding. She was a golfer and participated in golf events at home and throughout the province.
Throughout her life, Christena was very active in her community. She was a member of the South Mountain Arm of Gold Association, a charter member of the Dundee Golf Club, a member of the Port Hawkesbury Evergreen Club for over 20 years and a member of the Black River United Church. She served as caretaker at the South Mountain School for the entire period it was in operation.
Most of all, Christena was dedicated to her family.
She is survived by Phil, her husband of 62 years; daughters, Phyllis (Ross Wagg), St. George’s Channel and Georgie (John McNeil), Canaan, King’s County; grandchildren, Amy Wagg, currently in Los Angeles, California, Ian Wagg, Halifax, Danielle McNeil (Michael Taylor), Ottawa and Stephen McNeil, Ottawa; sisters, Jean Buchanan, Grand Anse and Alice (Robert) MacIntosh, Dundee; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Frost, Grand Anse and Nettie Frost, Halifax; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father George Frost; brothers, Allan ‘A.C.’, Harold, and George and sister-in-law, Ruth. She was also predeceased by her mother and two half-brothers, Dave and Joseph Savoie.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Black River United Church on Monday, August 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Wayne Yorke, DLM officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. A fellowship will be held at the St. George’s Channel Hall following the service.
Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society, the Strait Richmond Health Care Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
