William A. (Al) Felix Sr.

Passed peacefully away on April 9, 2011, in the presence of his loving family at Chancellor Park, aged 94 years. Leaving to mourn his devoted wife of 70 years Alice (Shortall), one sister, Mercedes Burton, daughters Annette Felix, Cecile Aylett and son Dr. Al Felix (Anna). He also leaves 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The Al Felix Orchestra enlivened many dances in NL from the 1940s to the 1960s. He was one of the first TCA employees in St. John’s and was a longtime employee and manager with Air Canada. In his day he was a well known athlete starring in soccer and hockey and is a member of the Soccer Hall of Fame. He is also an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital floors 7 East and 5 East and the staff at Chancellor Park nursing home, for their kindness, care, and compassion over the past few months. A special thanks also to his daughter-in-law, Anna Lawton Felix. Visitation will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Monday, April 11 from 7 – 9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 12 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. A celebration of Al’s life will take place on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Smithville Crescent.
