It is with great sadness that the family of Genevieve Gabriel announces her passing, at the age of 85 years, on Friday, July 31, 2009, at home.
Born in Summerside, NL, she was the daughter of the late Cashmere and Sarah (Gallant) Canning.
Through the years, she was employed at the Diana Sweets Restaurant, Snow White Laundry, T. Eatons, Smart Shoppe, Jacobsons Ladies Wear and Woolco in Sydney River, from which she retired in 1990. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and travelling with Walter, especially to St. Anne de Beaupre, Quebec and Newfoundland.
Genny leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her husband of 67 years, Walter; son, Ron (Donna); daughters, Geannie Canning and Paulette Krasowski (Carl), both of Sydney, Christine Rideout (Eric), Corner Brook, NL; 12 grandchildren, Ron (Juanita) Gabriel, Barrie, Ont., Krista Willis and Trevor Gabriel, Dartmouth, Sherry (Ben) Parsons, Enfield, Carol Anne (Mark) French and Cindy Rideout, Halifax, Angela Madison, Adam LaRusic and Lisa Walzak, Alberta, Paul (Jennifer) and Gary (Kathy) Krasowski and Connie Krasowski Morrison, Sydney; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Gary; sisters, Josephine O’Rourke, Margaret Cormier, Elizabeth Mischaude and Elsie McKay; brothers, Vince and John William Canning.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral arrangements are incomlete.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
