John Thomas (Jackie) Williams, 94, Louisbourg passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
John was the son of the late John and Ida (Leahy) Williams of Big Lorraine. He was a very active member of Stella Maris parish until recent years. He was a Knight of Columbus.
John began his working career at a very early age and was willing to do any task. He began as a hauler of coal by horse and wagon and finished as a plumber/pipefitter and maintenance man with National Sea Products. In the intervening years he took on whatever work came to hand from cutting wood for the coal pits to trying his hand at farming. He retired from National Sea Products after he reached the age of 65.
He enjoyed a good party with dancing and listening to Irish and Scottish music. He was always willing to share a good story and joke.
John is survived by daughter, Ruby Berringer, Dartmouth; grandson, John (Janet) Berringer; and great-granddaughter, Loanna Berringer, all from Fall River. He is also survived by sister, Sadie (Williams) Parsons, Main-a-Dieu; many nieces and nephews, with one special niece, his ‘angel’, Ida (Parsons) E isan.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys in February of this year, brothers, Leo, Archie, Harry and George, sisters, Theresa Nicholson and Bridget Parsons, and sister Alice in infancy.
Visitation for John (Jackie) Williams will take place Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 11 a.m. in Stella Marish Church with Fr. Patrick O’Neil officiating. Refreshments will be provided by the CWL during visitation and following the funeral.

Family flowers only, please. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stella Maris Parish Building Fund or a charity of choice.
