Dorothy left this world peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital with her loving family by her side.
A life-long resident of Little Pond, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Howard and Nellie (Bonnar) Boutilier.
She enjoyed her many years of retirement after working as a loans officer with the Royal Bank of Canada, Sydney Mines, for over 43 years. Dorothy was proud that her trust in people enabled numerous members of the community to purchase their first home or car even when they lacked assets or credit history.
She was a proud, independent woman and will always be remembered for her wisdom, compassion, style, and sense of humour. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, and enjoyed community life volunteering at the Northside Guest Home, taking in the summer concerts at the Indian Beach, sharing breakfast on Sundays at the Royal Canadian Legion, Florence, and attending events of the Bras d’Or Pensioners Club.
Surviving are children, Douglas (Greta), Truro; Jeanne, Halifax, Betty (Tom) Holunga, Winnipeg, Ginger (George), Northside East Bay, Bobby (Tabetha), Little Pond; grandchildren, Nathan, Greg, Brittany, Austin; great-grandchildren, Alex, Isaac, Christian; sister, Helen Clarke, Little Pond. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas, siblings, Everett, Dollie, Theresa, Dean, Bernie, Ralph, Edgar, Grace and Anne-Irene.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Francis Funeral Home, 706 Main St., Sydney Mines. Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 1, 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 2, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place today (Monday, Aug. 3) at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with Fr. Vern Boutilier officiating, followed by burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Johnson Road, North Sydney.
