Donald R. DUCOMMUN

Date de naissance : 11 décembre 1921

Date de décès : 24 juin 2017

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Ducommun on June 24 at Hilltop House in Squamish. He is predeceased by his loving wife of nearly fifty years, Molly. He is survived by his son Craig and daughter-in law Emily and two granddaughters Mary and Violet.
Born and raised in Vancouver and growing up in Vancouver and Coeur d'Alene Idaho, Donald served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War in the North Atlantic and post war was stationed in St Johns, Newfoundland. Post navy days Donald became a manufacturing jeweler - designing and repairing jewelry, which he worked at for close to forty years.
He was a big music fan especially big band jazz and was lucky to hear some of his idols play live in New York City during the war. Later in life he was known to break into spontaneous song, pleasing and confounding music lovers alike. He enjoyed the outdoors gardening and walking.
He was a kind, dedicated family man who was always willing and able to help anyone, quietly giving his time and going about his business.
He moved to Brackendale in 2009 to live with his family and in late 2015 became a resident of Hilltop House. Many a neighbour will recall with warmth "grampa" walking the neighbourhood often wearing his bright yellow toque, waving at passing cars.
Many, many, many thanks to all the staff of Hilltop House for helping Donald throughout his stay there and in his final transition to peace. Heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Squamish Hospice Society who give of their time freely and gracefully and who are a tremendous comfort to all. Also thanks to the workers from For The One You Love whose daily visits to Donald were welcome and full of kindness and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Squamish Hospice Society.
A Celebration of Life for Donald will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1135 Judd Road, Brackendale, BC at 1:00 PM.

Be In Peace
