Donald Franklyn MacEachern
Our dear father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home in Burlington, Ontario on June 26th, 2017 in his 86th year. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Alma MacEachern (nee Sudsbury). Born in Mermaid, P.E.I., Don was the son of William L. and Janet Elizabeth (Wright) MacEachern, both predeceased. Don will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Shauna Helm (Ed) and Sheila Zych (Bob). He was a very proud “Bappy” of six grandchildren – Donald, Deborah, Aaron (Heather), Kimberly (Chris), Andrew and Evan, as well as three great grandchildren – Holden, Emma and Everly. Don will also be missed by his sister, Elizabeth Andrew (Alvin, deceased) and was predeceased by his brother William MacEachern (Betty). Don’s first career was as an executive with Sears. Placements in Edmonton, Moose Jaw, Calgary and Toronto during his 25-year tenure gave him and his family the opportunity to see Canada. Upon retirement from Sears, he and Alma moved back home to P.E.I. They built their beautiful home and workshop in Spring Valley and established a second career in custom and heritage woodworking. Don was a great storyteller; many happy, wonderful years were spent by the pond and in the shop with family, friends and colleagues. Don returned to Burlington in 2012 to be close to his family. He was a very active and accomplished duplicate bridge player and had numerous interests in current affairs, sports, investments and nutrition. Much as Don crafted and shaped wood in his workshop, so did he leave his mark on all our lives. He was a very special man who will be forever in our hearts. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in P.E.I. at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Don’s favourite charity IWK Health Centre in Halifax (iwkfoundation.org/donate) or a charity of your choice is appreciated.
