Leon Chandler Fisher
Fisher, Leon Chandler – 92, Middle Stewiacke, passed away in Williams Country Home, Hilden, on April 12, 2011. Born in Middle Stewiacke as the fifth generation on the family farm, he was a son of the late Burton and Adella (Fleck) Fisher. He was a woodsman, dairy farmer, community historian, and could be called upon to fix anything. At the age of 70, he fulfilled a life-long dream of learning to play the fiddle, joining the Good Time Fiddlers, and later inspiring many beginners and following their progress. In his most recent years, his greatest pleasure was spent fixing and refinishing clocks.
Surviving are daughter, Avis Victoria Fullerton, Bedford; son, Eric Leon (Rosalie), Shubenacadie; grandchildren, Jeff Fullerton (Samantha Brennan), Susan Fullerton, Tara (Will) Phipps, Troy (Jeanette) Fisher; great-grandchildren, Mallory Brennan, Gavin and Miles Fullerton, Hannah and Erica Fisher, Ethan and Grayson Phipps; sisters, Phyllis Sutherland and Freda Sutherland; sister-in-law, Mary Fisher. He was predeceased by his wife, Gwen; brothers, Gerald, Wilbert, Weldon, Clarence, Rupert; sister, Helen McElhinney. Visitation will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. and funeral service will be Saturday at 3 p.m., both in Middle Stewiacke United Church, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Burial to follow in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Middle Stewiacke United Church, or Stephen Lewis Foundation.
