Lorna Beth Butler (Elger)
Date de décès : 27 juillet 2017
Lorna, age 82, passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at Pleasantview Towers on July 27th, 2017. Born in Lac Megantic, Quebec, she was the daughter of Clyne Elger and Louisa Andrews. She is survived by her sons Donald MacIntosh (Rebecca) and Glenn Butler (Lisa Duffy) and her daughter Nancy Butler (Richard Palfreyman). She also leaves granddaughters Ellen (Chris Nantau) and Julia Palfreyman. Lorna was predeceased by husbands Peter Crear MacIntosh and Ralph Williams Butler, son David Stephen MacIntosh, and sister Faye Downey. Lorna was a graduate RN from the Montreal General Hospital School of Nursing, where she worked for her early career. She was widowed at age 26 with two small children. Subsequently, Lorna married Ralph and moved to St. John's. While she happily made a home in Newfoundland and developed an extensive network of friends, each summer she packed the kids and dog into the car to head off to Lac Megantic. Lorna was active in the Anglican Church community in St. John's, including the ACWA. One of the original staff nurses of the Palliative Care Unit of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, she loved her job, treating patients with the kindness and care she gave to all who knew her. After retirement, Lorna continued to be active, working with the East Coast Trail Association and even going on an Outward Bound adventure at age 64. She was truly remarkable. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful care our mother received on wards 2 South-East and 2 South-West at Pleasantview Towers. You gave our mother the same dignity and respect that she showed to others. We also want to acknowledge the wonderful friendship and kindness shown to our mother by longtime family friend, Dr. James Seviour. Visitation will take place at Barrett's funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Sunday, July 30 from 2-4 PM and 7-9PM. Funeral service will be held at The Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 31st. A private family internment will be held later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorna's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador. To sign the online memorial book, please visit www.barretts.ca.
