Mr. John James (Jack) Donald passed away after a lengthy illness on Monday, March 28, 2011 in Ottawa, On. Jack was born June 10, 1946 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where he attended King George School and P.A.C.I. After completing High School he was employed by Burns; where he became a Health of Animals Inspector; working within the plant; as well as in the field. He was a member of the Sea Cadets, and also obtained his glider and private pilot licence while living in Prince Albert. In 1974 he moved to Calgary, where he worked and took pleasure in mountain climbing, search and rescue, gliding and fly fishing. Jack had several hobbies such as coin and stamp collecting, photography, baseball and an avid interest in war history. He was a forest firefighter and military reservist. He later moved to Ottawa to further his education and career. He was employed by the public service for over 44 years as an agriculture inspector, program officer and subject matter expert. Jack took pride in his work; his expertise was greatly respected by domestic and foreign industry, foreign governments, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada and by CFIA colleagues and management. His work will be his legacy. Jack is survived by his loving mother Minnie Donald, Sister Gail (Keith) Nielsen, niece Heather Nielsen, special cousin/sister Marlene (Bill) Leith of Rosetown and one aunt Anne Churchwell of Saskatoon as well as numerous cousins. Jack is also survived by his special friends and colleagues; his “Ottawa Family”. Jack was predeceased by his father;John Melvery Donald, his grand parents; John and Mary Donald, Bert and Margaret Churchwell; as well as numerous aunts and uncles. An immediate family funeral service will be held. Internment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it is the request of the family that a donation be given to a charity of your choice in Jack’s memory.
