NEW GLASGOW – Christine Helen (Irving) Cameron passed away peacefully at her home in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on Thursday, April 14th, 2011 at the age of 101.
Helen was born in Rossfield, Pictou County, Nova Scotia on November 27, 1909 to John Bayliss and May (Ross) Irving.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, William David Cameron in 1971.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her five children: her son, Donald (Rosemary); her four daughters: Margaret May (David), Elizabeth, Lois (John Thompson) and Bona. She is also survived by her nine precious grandchildren: Natalie (Glenn), David (Sarah), and Christine (Andrew); Daniel (Maura); Stephanie (Mark) and Michael (Erika); Ted, Christine and Nathan, as well as her seven adorable great-grandsons: Isaac, Abraham, Salomon, Angus, Lawrence, William and Jon. Her devoted pets Pixie Star and Skippy will miss her.
She was predeceased by her older sisters, Elizabeth Ross Irving in 1907 and Mary Louise Irving in 1997.
Mum graduated from Maritime Business College. She had many interests and enjoyed reading, quilting, knitting, crocheting, leather craft, flowers and animals especially dogs and horses. She took an active interest in the lives of all her children and grandchildren. Mum will be remembered for her strength, enthusiasm, common sense, independent nature and her love for anything green. She loved life, drove her car until she was 97, maintained her remarkable memory and sharp mind, and was able to recite poems and verses until the end often to express her feelings.
The family wish to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Anne Kwasnik, Dr. Ed Skinner, Dr. Gerry Farrell, the VON staff and her personal caregivers.
In keeping with Mum’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 37 Mountain Road, New Glasgow with Rev. Richard E. Sand officiating at 2 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the SPCA would be appreciated.
