Acker, Alfred John, 79, of Truro, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Shelburne, he was a son of the late Laurie and Zella Mae (Faye) Acker. Alfred served overseas during the Korean War, and was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro. Alfred was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro. He worked for the Nova Scotia Agriculture College for 25 years and later at the Maritime Home for Girls until his retirement. He loved to hunt, fish, and travel. He was a very devoted husband and was always willing to help others in need.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Freda May Wilson; sisters, Mrs. Elsie George and Mrs. Elizabeth “Libby” Marsh, both of Shelburne; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws Mrs. Rose Acker and Mrs. Jessie Acker, both of Shelburne.
He was predeceased by brothers, Norman, Gordon, Bill, Bubby; sisters Vera, Mabel.
Visitation will take place from 1 pm until 1:45pm from where the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro will conduct a Legion Tribute Service at 1:45 pm directly follow by the funeral service, on Monday 2 pm, all in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Rev. Lori Ramsey will officiate with burial to take place at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations in Alfred’s memory may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro.
