CORMIER, David Richard — 62 of Halifax, formerly of Amherst, passed away suddenly Sunday, August 2, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII after a brief illness. Born in Amherst, David was the son of the late Ernest and Bella (LeBlanc) Cormier. David attended the Amherst Catholic School, Amherst Regional High and graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University in 1970 with a BSc. Major in Geology. He worked for Co-operator's Insurance before opening his own business, David R. Cormier Insurance. During those years he was a member of the Board of Directors for the Credit Union, President of the Co-op Society for Cumberland County and actively involved in the Amherst Curling Club. Although he made a living in the insurance industry, his love of geology was evident as he could be found tapping on rocks wherever he went. David semi-retired in 2000 and moved to Halifax and worked for Hershey's where he acquired an endless supply of chocolates and made several friends. David will be remembered for his vast knowledge, quick dry wit, ability to complete the New York Times crossword, and his love of cats. David is survived by his daughters, Renee (Brian Simms), Windsor; Jenelle (Matthew Cook), Norton, N.B.; granddaughters, Emma and Callie Cook; sisters, Doreen (Richard) MacEwan, Windsor; Audrey (Joe) Walker, Truro; Betty Ann (Alan) Nicolson, Pictou. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother Ron. Cremation has taken place and there will be an open house celebration of David's life on Friday, August 7 from 3-6 p.m. in the home of Rhonda and Grant Lewis, 455 Hwy. 204, Brookdale, everyone is welcome.
