We, the family of Hilda Steele, age 99, announce her passing on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Elizabeth (Jeans) Burton.
Hilda was a woman of faith. God and family came first. Her greatest pleasure in life was preparing meals for large family gatherings.
Hilda is survived by her sons, Allan (Mary), Wayne (Lois); daughters, Lynn (Kenneth) Graham, Karen (Donnie) Wilson; 18 grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Allan Steele; daughters, Leona, Arlene; son, Blair Daryl; brothers, Melvin, Stanley, Wallace; sisters, Edna, Eleanor, Majorie, Dorothy, Norma and Phyllis.
Special thanks to her long time friend, Charlotte Cameron who was at her side when she passed.
We would like to thank the staff at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care, St. Anne’s Bay, for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held on Sunday August 27, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Danny Boudreau, will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in St Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Reception to follow in Reserve Mines Seniors & Pensioners Club.
