Douglas "Doug" Cameron
DARTMOUTH – It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Wendell Douglas "Doug" Cameron, 72, of Dartmouth, on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at home.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Muriel Jean (Luther) Cameron and the late Wendell Urquhart Cameron.
Doug was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also a caring brother, son and friend. Doug was an avid guitar player and singer, frequently entertaining at family gatherings. He enjoyed gardening and nature, and was a life long hockey fan ("Go Habs!"). Doug was an excellent handyman and jack-of-all-trades. He was also the unofficial photographer of all family events, and it was truly his family that meant the most to him. Doug was devoted to his wife, Rose-Marie, his closest friend and companion. His three girls are forever grateful for his love and support and teaching of all things practical and sensible. Doug started his career as a nursing assistant at the Nova Scotia Hospital and worked as a planner with the Province at the Department of Development for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rose-Marie (Bourque) Cameron; daughters: Kerri (Tim) Lohnes, of Dartmouth, Sheryl (Matthew) Kingston, of Bedford, and Pamela (Louis Chevrier) Cameron, of St-Basile-le-Grand, Quebec; grandsons: Olivier, Thomas and Ryan; granddaughter, Savannah; mother, Muriel Cameron, of New Glasgow; brothers: Albert, of Dartmouth, Steve (Margie), Colin (Marsha) and Malcolm, of New Glasgow; sister, Janice (Bill Thomson), of Toronto, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Norma, of Halifax and Janet, of New Glasgow; 11 nephews and four nieces.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Fraser and Sandy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2011 from 6-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St, Dartmouth, where a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, with a reception to follow in the funeral homes reception centre.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Victoria General Oncology Department for their kindness and caring throughout these difficult months.
