It is with great sadness that we, the family of Lillian Herritt, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, announce her passing on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, in her 81st year at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Channel, Port aux Basques on June 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Cicely (Allen) Battiste.
Mom came to Nova Scotia at the age of 15 and worked in the Halifax Infirmary during the war years. She returned to Newfoundland, where she married Wyndell Herritt. They moved to Stanley Street, North Sydney, where she lived for 57 years and raised her children until her admittance to the Northside General Hospital in February due to ill health.
Mom had a great zest for life and loved to dance and socialize with her family and friends. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
She leaves to mourn with precious memories her sons, Frank (Trudy), Florence, Carl (Diane), Sydney Mines, and daughter, Sharon MacIntyre (Donald), Hillside Boularderie; her grandchildren, Tanya Herritt (Jason Clarkson) and her daughter, Michaela; Steven Herritt (Margaret Ann) and their sons, Aubrey and Ashton; Shane MacIntyre (Sarah) and their children, Max, Leah, MacKenzie and Finn; Adam MacIntyre (Crystal) and their son, Noah; and Natasha MacIntyre (Mike Delaney), Boularderie. Also surviving are her sisters, Margaret (Arch) Osmond, Newfoundland, and Edna Banks (the late Fred Banks), North Sydney; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wyndell Herritt, infant twins and infant daughter, her sister, Mabel and brothers, Roy, Fred and Henry.
Visitation for Lillian will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
