Joseve MacLean

Lieu de naissance : Seaview, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de naissance : 31 octobre 1910

Lieu de décès : East Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 19 avril 2011

Joseve Catherine MacLean, 100, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 19, 2011.
Born in Seaview, Nova Scotia; she was the youngest child of the late John William and Catherine Belle Goswell. Growing up, she tended the family farm with her siblings. Later, she would be employed as a housekeeper, both in Nova Scotia and in Ontario. Upon returning to Nova Scotia, she worked for War Time Housing in Halifax as a server. It was there that she met Kenny MacLean, an employee of Standard Paving. They quickly became the love of each others lives and were married in November, 1945 and within a few years Eva had given birth to their only child Bernadette. Eva and Kenny began boarding students for the Nova Scotia Community College; a practice Eva continued for many years after her husband's death, in 1968, until she had moved to East Bay, in 1979, to be with her family.
Those who knew Eva would agree that she was a simple woman with a wonderful, warm smile. She had strong values and was a devout Christian. Never, until her final years, would she ever miss Saturday evening mass... and for those occasions she did... she insisted on being present for Sunday morning's.
She believed in working hard and living a good healthy life. Many in the community may recall seeing her walk “little Pudgy” each day to check the mailbox or walk the local track. She also enjoyed participating in many community social functions where she could normally be found where there was tea to be served or a dirty dish to be washed.
As young children, her grandchildren and grandnieces would characterize her as stern in her mannerisms; however, all agreed that as with a fine wine, she mellowed with age. Her stern mannerisms gave way to a delightfully sharp sense of humour which made itself known on many occasions, leaving everyone in stitches as a result of her dry wit and surprising commentary.
Eva was an avid crocheter and knitter and everyone in the family looked forward to her Christmas socks, mittens and dish clothes.
She especially looked forward to Sundays and on those special occasions where the family would gather at her niece's, Baba, with whom she shared a special bond, for good meals and the sharing of family memories. Her speciality gravy will be missed by all.
She is survived by her daughter, Bernadette (Henry) Martell; grandchildren, Ken (Kimberley), Giselle (Joe) Troke, and Michelle; and great grandchildren, William Troke and James Troke, and her “little boy” Pudgy the dog.
She was predeceased by her husband Kenny MacLean; sisters Ida Hayman, Emma Bonang, Carey Hoffman, Henrietta, and Annie Burns; her brothers James and Calder and her step siblings William Grant, John Grant and Elizabeth MacMillan.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacLean will be Sunday, April 24, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 25 at 2:00 pm in St. Mary's Church, East Bay with Rev. Frank Abbass officiating with interment at a later date.
On behalf of Eva, the family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to her private caregiver (Lynda) and professional caregivers County Home Makers and VON and Palliative Care attendants. She enjoyed their compassion and company immensely.
In liew of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary's Church Fund, East Bay, NS; C.B. Palliative Care or any charity of your choice.
