It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our dear grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Frances Evasuk, on Friday April 22, 2011, at her home.
Born March 10, 1927, in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Slamco) Carroll, and was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Church, Glace Bay.
In Francie’s earlier years she enjoyed spending the summers with her family at her summer home on Trout Brook Road, Mira. Francie always opened her home and her heart to visitors, always telling a story or joke. She especially enjoyed the lunch time visits of children and looked forward to the noon visits from students across the street who attended St. Michael Jr High School. Francie was a fun ‘Grand Ma’ who enjoyed playing Nintendo trying to save the ‘Princess’ and setting Tetris records. She and Bill were loyal hockey fans attending their grandson Jordan’s minor hockey games and tournaments.
Francie also loved to bowl with the afternoon ladies league and to crochet, with many of her works of art still being admired and enjoyed. She was also known for her sense of humour, often being the life of the party at any social gathering.
Francie is survived by her son-in-law, Leonard ‘Len’ MacDonald; grandchildren, Jennifer (Simon) and Jordan Evasuk-MacDonald (Tiffany); great-grandchildren, Ethan and Stephen Curran; sister, Helen Cruickshank; sisters-in-law, Helen (Zsolt) Molnar, Carmel Evasuk; brother-in-law, Steve Markiw; nephews, Darrell (Marion) and John (Sylvie) Evasuk, Billy (Myra) Marchysen; nieces Elaine (Greg) Hines, Debbie (George) Cameron, Jeannie (Al) Durand, Arlene Marchysen; grandnieces and nephews; cousins and a longtime special friend, Joann Andrecyk.
Besides her parents, Francie was predeceased by her husband and soulmate of 63 years, William ‘Bill Evasuk, on Sept. 5, 2010, son, John, daughter, Darlene MacDonald, sisters, Mary Salyzyn, Catherine Marchyson, Annie Markiw and niece, Mary ‘Tosh’ Leonard.
